LONDON. — Danny Welbeck may not return to action in January after suffering a number of setbacks in his rehabilitation following knee surgery he underwent in September. Welbeck (25) hasn’t played since a 0-0 draw between Arsenal and Chelsea on April 26 — and may not make his comeback until February at the earliest. The extra lay-off means Welbeck will have extra work to do to convince Roy Hodgson he should be in England’s squad for the European Championship in France.
Given the form of Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane, and Wayne Rooney’s standing as captain, there may only be one more place up for grabs in Hodgson’s squad. — The Mirror.
