SITUATED in the capital city, next to the Robert Mugabe Square, is a luxury modern golden hotel — the Rainbow Towers.
The hospitality facility, formerly Sheraton Hotel, was opened in 1985.
This week, we are focusing on the hotel’s garden.
It appears there is emphasis on the use of indigenous plants at this place.
Right from the entrance, the lush green lawns captivate you as you park your vehicle under the shade of the Kenyan crotons (croton megalocarpon).
White roses are bound to leave a lasting impression on visitors, as they enter the more than 300-roomed Rainbow Towers.
The queen palms (arecastrum romanzoffianum) in the driveway and the front yard contribute to the place’s elegance.
The many dotted white pots match the white round lights that are a common feature around the garden and help bring the place to life at night.
Another common feature are the bougainvilleas, whose red flowers bring colour to the space.
The brick pathways give a homely feeling to the centre.
The fascination of the garden continues as you walk past large specimens of the water berry (syzygium guinsee), which usher you to a secluded swimming pool area that matches international standards.
The garden extends into the hotel foyer, where indoor plants are the order of the day.
Other trees of note that bring life to the garden are the sky’s the limit (schizolobium excelsum), the jacaranda (jacaranda mimosifolia) and the wild date palm (phoenix reclinata), which are close to the car park that can accommodate up to 800 cars.
The Rainbow Towers boasts a hotel and a conference facility, which hosts a plethora of both private and public functions.
They can also host any large gathering outside the building.
The vegetation was carefully chosen to complement the facility, while creating a perfectly refreshing environment
Maintenance of the place is done by a large team.
