THE Second Republic will remain focused on improving livelihoods through people-centred development programmes, Zanu PF First Secretary and President Cde Mnangagwa has said.
Government, the President said, was intensifying initiatives that promoted skills development, entrepreneurship, employment creation and improved service delivery countrywide.
Addressing the 27th Ordinary Session of the Zanu PF National Consultative Assembly (NCA) in Harare yesterday, the President said the Government’s overriding priority was to build a prosperous, empowered and modern Zimbabwe where no community was left behind.
“As we build a prosperous and empowered Zimbabwe, our party-led Government will remain steadfast in advancing policies and programmes which ‘Put the People First’. Initiatives that ensure skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation and employment creation, will be pursued for our young people in both rural and urban areas,” said President Mnangagwa.
He said the Second Republic would continue prioritising programmes that uplifted communities and improved the quality of life for all Zimbabweans.
“No one and no place will be left behind. To date, I am pleased that our vision for people-centred development is positively impacting lives. In all areas of the country, projects such as roads, dams, schools, health facilities, irrigation schemes, mining and industrial development are there for all to see. More work lies ahead; the party will not rest or relax,” he said.
Noting that the country’s development trajectory was gathering momentum, President Mnangagwa said Government had accelerated the implementation of infrastructure and economic transformation projects aimed at improving livelihoods.
“Under the Second Republic, the ZANU PF machinery is moving full speed ahead to guarantee that our people are more prosperous, and our nation modernised and developed. Brick by brick, stone upon stone, we will never tire in the ongoing work to build our country.”
He said empowerment initiatives targeting women, youths and war veterans were beginning to yield tangible results by promoting self-reliance, expanding economic participation and improving household incomes.
The ruling party’s First Secretary also urged party members to embrace technology and innovation as critical tools for accelerating development and improving service delivery.
“ZANU PF is a party with a history; a party of the present, and the future. The world is increasingly embracing research, technology and innovation. Our mass party is, therefore, appropriately responding to new technologies and the possibilities it presents. We are advancing efficiency, communication, data management and service delivery, within and across all party structures,” he said.
“ZANU PF is modernising; we are here to stay. As our late national hero and Vice President ‘Cde Mzee’ Simon Vengesayi Muzenda once said, ‘ZANU PF ichatonga kusvikira madongi amera nyanga’. This generation will do its part to realise this dream.”
Explaining the role that the National Consultative Assembly plays, he said it remains a critical advisory organ that draws on the experience, institutional memory and patriotism of party members to guide the country’s development agenda.
“We count on your collective leadership, wisdom, experience and patriotism to help in shaping the direction of our revolutionary party and beloved motherland, Zimbabwe.
“Drawing from the vast institutional memory of this august body, I call upon you my fellow comrades to carry on providing the necessary and timely ideological clarity to the rest of the party organs,” he said.
The President said delegates should emerge from the meeting with practical recommendations that would strengthen the party and consolidate ongoing efforts to expand membership ahead of the 23rd National People’s Conference to be held in Mashonaland West Province.
He said Zimbabwe continued to register progress in national development, with unity, peace and democracy providing a firm foundation for economic transformation.
“The colossal revolutionary mass party remains unwavering in its commitment to the empowerment and an improved quality of life for the people. The modernisation, industrialisation and broader national development agenda of our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe, continues to gain momentum.
“Unity among our people is stronger, peace prevails and democracy is being consolidated. Our revolutionary party-led Government is realising practical results that impact on the day-to-day lives of the people. We have a lot to be thankful for, as a nation and party,” he said.
President Mnangagwa called for the establishment of a comprehensive archive documenting the history of Zanu PF and its key figures to preserve the party’s legacy for future generations.
He paid tribute to the late Vice President and national hero, Father Zimbabwe, Cde Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, describing his commitment to the liberation struggle, national unity and social justice as an enduring source of inspiration.
Zimbabweans, he said, must remain united and continue defending the gains of independence while promoting peace, patriotism and servant leadership.
