5 000 fans on his Facebook account.
So popular is Wendall that when he was first introduced by show presenter IK, he got everyone talking, whether its because he is a pilot or what it remains to be seen.
But one thing about him is that he makes the grade in the house.
The 23-year-old, who is co-representing Zimbabwe with top model Vimbai Mutinhiri, has become an instant hit with some even joking about him being the only “white boy” in the house.
There has also been debate surrounding his citizenship with fans wanting to know if he was born in Zimbabwe or not.
However, as one of the prerequisites to enter the reality series, the contestants have to apply online or fill up application forms at MultiChoice centres in their respective countries and have to be citizens of the 14 participating countries.
Liz Dziva, the MultiChoice Zimbabwe public relations head, said the fact that Wendall was representing Zimbabwe meant that he was indeed a citizen of Zimbabwe.
“I cannot confirm the other details but what I can do is to get you in touch with the family for other details,” she said.
But on the social forum Wendall has the full backing of most Zimbabweans as well as in Africa as evidenced by the posts on his page.
One of the notable posts came from former Miss Zimbabwe Vanessa Sibanda now based in South Africa. Queen Vee, as she is now called, said:
“Wendall Parson (Zimbabwe) for Big Brother Amplified truly shows Africa we have fine brothers in Zimbabwe. Yep I hope Wendall will rock and win Africa’s vote with his charm, intelligence and confidence hope he entertains all the way.”
Bhekinkosi Mlilo simply said: “Hot 4 sho (hot for sure).”
Another popular model based in South Africa, Rumbidzai Feremenga who uses the name “Erin La Rue Ms Independent”, commented on Wendall saying that: “I am sure he is smart enough let’s keep our fingers crossed he should just distract everyone.”
However, Munyaradzi Dambaza said: “I am not a racist but I wasn’t expecting Zimbabwe to send a white boy into BB house.”
According to the official Wendall’s profile, his favourite place in Zimbabwe is Kariba because he loves fishing and being in the sun with his friends. He says that the best thing about his country is “absolutely everything – the people, how beautiful our country is and how much it has to offer the world.”
The best advice he ever received was “live each day as if it were your last” from his mother, along with “be grateful for everything and every opportunity you get in your life”.
His greatest achievement is qualifying for his commercial pilot’s licence and he lists his role model as US President Barack Obama.
He promises viewers that he will take excitement and suspense to another level and should he win, he will invest his prize money into something he enjoys doing and start a business.
His favourite previous Big Brother contest-ant is Munya because of the way he represent- ed Zimbabwe “and he came so close to win- ning”.
To relax, Wendall goes to gym or socialises with his friends. His personal motto is “you win some, you lose some” and while he jokes that he doesn’t have any specific special talents, “you never know what might come out on a crazy night in the house!”
The big question this year is, of course . . . will Big Brother have any surprises like last year’s Barn which was only revealed weeks after the show’s launch?
That remains to be seen but audiences can be guaranteed . . . what you see is not always what you get on Big Brother!
M-Net’s Big Brother Amplified is screened on on DStv channel 198 and the series is available 24/7 to DStv Premium, Compact Plus and Compact subscribers.
The series is headline sponsored by Coca-Cola and produced for M-Net by Endemol South Africa.
