LONDON. — Arsene Wenger remained unmoved after Arsenal fans unfurled a banner following the side’s 1-0 win at West Brom, which read “Arsene, thanks for the memories but it’s time to say goodbye”. Wenger saw Danny Welbeck score the only goal of the game at the Hawthorns to claim three points, but they remain well behind English Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Fans have grown frustrated over their side’s inability to make a sustained push for the title, yet Wenger was unperturbed by the banner.

Asked about it, he responded: “I don’t comment on that. Do I need to say it again?

“I don’t comment on your question.

“Every person has responsibility to prepare for the future, always.”

The Gunners chief declared that he had also refrained from responding to criticism following last week’s defeat against Manchester United.

“The only thing we can do is let people talk.

“We live in a society of total opinion but we live off not what we say but what we do, and what we do is on the pitch,” he said.

On whether he is the future of Arsenal Wenger said: “You’re very good at insisting.

“The responsibility of everybody is to prepare for the future.”

Wenger saw the positives in Arsenal’s performance in the West Midlands — most notably Welbeck — but also was a little disappointed at seeing his side fail to take their chances.

“It was a game we controlled well until we scored the first goal but we didn’t take our chances.

“We played well but we couldn’t take our chances, sometimes because of the final ball, sometimes because of finishing.

“After playing on Wednesday, we finished the game more looking more for solidarity because the legs were a bit jaded but we kept it together.

“We had a bit of luck but as well we had focus to defend to the end.” — The Mirror.
