Chronicle EditorLONDON. – Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted that he will splash the cash to keep Alexis Sanchez at the English Premiership soccer club.The forward’s current deal ends after next season, and there have been rumours that he could leave the Emirates in the near future. Reports have suggested the Chilean forward has been demanding a big pay rise and wants £200 000 a week.
Mesut Ozil is also believed to be pushing for a similar deal. However, Sanchez’s coach is keen to keep him in north London, and spoke on the situation after seeing his side beat Bournemouth 3-1 on Sunday. Sanchez (27) scored twice as Arsenal dispatched the south coast outfit in a closely fought encounter that keeps them three points behind English Premier League leaders Chelsea.
Sanchez has just 18 months left on his current £130 000-a-week contract but is putting an extra zero on the negotiations with every man-of-the-match performance. “It is important. How important it is, I don’t know. We will not sort it tonight,” said the Frenchman.
“We have some time in front of us. You (the media) like us to spend money, so you should be happy!” Sanchez has become vital for the Gunners since arriving at the club in 2014, playing both on the wing and as a central striker. The Chile international has mostly featured as the latter this season, and it has paid off for Arsenal – with the former Barcelona man bagging 10 goals and eight assists in 18 appearances in all competitions so far.
“Even when he looks dead, he’s still alive and always finds the resources to do something special,” Wenger said of Sanchez. “He has that conditioning which allows him to always find an extra gear to be dangerous.”
Meanwhile, Wenger has suggested that Carl Jenkinson has fallen to the bottom of his pecking order for Arsenal’s right-back position after dropping the 24-year-old for the 3-1 win over Bournemouth. – Metro.
