FEMALE music producer, Tafadzwa ‘Miss Flame’ Ruhukwa, has shed some light on the harassment and abuse prevailing in the music industry and cast a spotlight on the challenges faced by women in a male-dominated field.
Tafadzwa shared her two-year personal experiences and highlighted the issue of derogatory comments, including being labelled a prostitute.
She revealed that many male producers demand sex in exchange for a recording and most of the recording space was filled with men engaging in drugs.
Tafadzwa challenged herself to open a studio where girls can come and have free space to push their musical talent.
“The music industry is still heavily male-dominated, and this power imbalance often leads to situations where women are subjected to harassment and unfair treatment.
“It’s disheartening to see talented female artists and professionals facing obstacles solely based on their gender.
“At times, I have been called a prostitute, which is not only disrespectful but also indicative of the deeply entrenched gender biases that exist within the industry.
“I had to open my own studio where I want every woman to come and fully express themselves without fear of getting any funny comments or advances,” said Tafadzwa.
