POLICE have warned drug barons that their time is up and urged people to report all drug and substance abuse cases in their community.

Speaking during the National Youth Day celebrations yesterday, the police said the community had an important role in the fight to eradicate dangerous drugs and substances.

“As police, we now call upon the public to give us information about drug peddlers and abusers,” said national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

“We do not operate in a vacuum, and so does the Government.

“So, we need assistance from the public and I also appeal to schools, colleges and universities’ authorities to inform the police about drug dealers so that they are arrested.”

He said parents, guardians and school authorities should report at any police station for the law to take its course.

Ass Comm Nyathi commended President Mnangagwa for setting the tone in the fight against drug and substance abuse.

“I would like to thank the President for initiating this fight.

“The President did not only focus on the arrest and prosecution of drug abusers and peddlers, but he also talked about rehabilitation of the victims.”

He urged the youths to be responsible, work hard and promote development in the country.

“The youths are the future of this country as alluded to by the President, and they should shun criminal acts, which include drug and substance abuse,” he said.

The police recently launched a special blitz to fight drug and substance abuse under the theme “No To Dangerous Drugs And Illicit Substances: See Something Say Something”.
