The employees won a long standing High Court battle against their employer after demanding to be paid the outstanding salaries.
In an interview to ascertain the impact of the attachment of the vehicles, plant and equipment, Ald Chakabuda said the city was functioning “normally”.
“All is well in Masvingo. We hear of non-service delivery from the media. Non-delivery of services is an imagination of the media,” he said.
Mayor Chakabuda said the council had suspended negotiations with workers following its double appeals to the Labour and High Courts.
“Our position is that we have appealed to the Labour and High Courts. The outcome of the appeals will determine the course of action we will take,” he said.
His comments come at a time media reports indicate a dearth of service delivery in the city. There are also fears that the attached plant and equipment would be auctioned.
Sources close to developments at the municipality revealed that the city has hired additional plant and equipment to augment the few pieces that were not attached.
