CHILSPOT FC co-founder, Tafadzwa Nhamburo, believes social football is helping yesteryear stars, youths and the elderly to fight drug abuse.
Chillspot plays in the Highfield Area Soccer Zone League.
It is sponsored by Benjamin Pazvakavambwa, who is based in the United Kingdom.
Nhamburo, who is also affectionately known as Gonzo, revealed what inspired the formation of the team.
“It started like a joke, in Lusaka, Highfield.
“We have a place where we usually sit and discuss local and foreign leagues.
“We call it the chill spot.
“So, everyone in Lusaka knows how noisy we can be when we are arguing about football matters.
“We then decided to form a social team, and one of the league’s directors, Dhala, advised us to register our team and we have been enjoying social football ever since,” he said.
Former Dynamos and CAPS United forward, Clive Kawinga, is one of the notable names in the club’s camp.
“Social football is playing a key role in the fight against drugs.
“We have many soccer legends that are battling drug addiction.
“So, if the legends, the elderly and youths can be occupied on weekends, it helps save our communities.
“It’s not only about drug abuse, but social football can help one’s self-esteem, mental health, physical health and quality of life,” he said.
