Bosso’s Divine intervention

HIGHLANDERS have steered clear of the relegation waters they were swimming in before the arrival of Portuguese coach, Baltemor Brito.

At one point, Bosso were 12th on the league table, and just a few points from the red zone, following a poor start to the season, which cost Mandla Mpofu his job as head coach.

Brito seems to have stemmed the tide and Bosso are in fifth place on 35 points.

But, they are a massive 16 points adrift of log leaders FC Platinum, and 16 points ahead of bottom club Whawha.

Brito was booed by Bosso fans at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday, following a lifeless performance in their 1-1 stalemate with Herentals.

Attacking midfielder, Divine Mhindirira, is one player who has been consistent this season.

The arrival of Brito has even sparked more life into his game.

Mhindira has displayed some sheer individual brilliance with his cheeky turns, crucial interceptions, successful dribbles, and long searching passes.

He is one of the best performing players in the league.

The 22-year-old has been bossing the midfield under Brito, who has allowed him to express himself.

“I feel excited to be representing Highlanders, a club with a rich football history in the country,” he told H-Metro.

“A number of fine players have passed through the club and it’s an honour to follow in their footsteps.

“I don’t seek to emulate or copy any club legend but I try to establish myself by stamping my own identity.

“Joining Highlanders was a big decision for me because I knew what it meant to the fans.

“The fans here are very passionate about the team and I feel they deserve the best always.

“They play an important role in helping the team get results.”

The former Bulawayo City midfielder is looking forward to a strong finish this season.

“I would like to see us finish strongly and compete with teams above us.

“As Highlanders, we should be in a position to always challenge for the league title.

“It’s been a long time since the club last won the title.

“I believe the major challenge for the team is to cover the gap between the log leaders and us.

“We started slowly, but we are going to push ourselves to finish strongly.

“We should be bold in our play and no one really needs to explain what is needed to do that.”
