We’re not cursed: Walaza

them lose.
Speculation has been rife that the Green Machine is cursed.
“I don’t believe in such things and, as players, we don’t believe in such things and we believe that it is just a poor spell and we are just being unlucky,” said Walaza.
Walaza believes his team will have to dig deep to overcome their bogey side Black Mambas and reverse a horrible run in the Premiership that has seen them being sucked into relegation battles.
Walaza said all they needed was one good result.
“It is just bad luck but if we get one good result we will be okay. We are doing things right but not getting results and we are confident that we will win,” said Walaza, speaking at the club’s weekly press conference.
“We know we have struggled against Black Mambas but this time we have to win at all costs. It would be difficult but everyone has to raise his game and play to win.”
The Harare clubs clash at Morris Depot tomorrow.
It is tough to be a CAPS United coach, player or fan these days after a run of seven league matches without a win, including five straight defeats.
Last week they were hoping to get it right against high-riding Highlanders but came unstuck against the unbeaten pacesetters.
Now they are meeting a police side which, since returning to top-flight football in 2010, have only lost once to the Harare giants with the other four meetings ending in draws.
CAPS United’s only victory came in the second half of 2010 when they beat Mambas 2-0 with Ghanaian Frank Addo and goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda, as is usually the norm at the club, on target for the Green Machine.
Even the star-studded Green Machine team that featured Method Mwanjali, Nyasha Mushekwi, Tafadzwa Rusike, Oscar Machapa, Lionel Mtizwa and Gilbert Mapemba could only manage a 2-2 draw against Mambas in a league match.
Mapemba and Mtizwa late goals salvaged the draw.
Mambas had raced to an early lead via goals from Kasimero Chimbadzwa and Luckson Kaisa.
Walaza said the current Class of CAPS United was different from the Class of 2010, which was led by Mwanjali.
“The Mwanjali class had talent, drive and motivation and that is why they even managed to go to South Africa,” said Walaza.
“Those players were experienced and could easily motivate each other and others.
“Yes, Shingi is experienced but he is still new in the team while players such as Method were in the set-up before.”
Coach Taurai Mangwiro said he would make some changes to the team as he searches for his first victory.
“The sooner we start getting results the better for us. For this game we are working on some changes,” said Mangwiro.
“If you look at the team, it has been conceding every game.
“We have been leaking and you can’t have a team that concedes in every match. Expect some changes and it won’t be wholesome changes but it is a gradual process.
“The defence is leaking and the strike force is blunt and these are the two critical areas and they are lacking.”
He said there was a lot that needed to be done in terms of psyching up players.
“We are coming form a defeat at home and they are coming from a win,” said Mangwiro.
“And the games against Black Mambas pose a danger and there is need never to underestimate them.
“We are going out and look for a win and this can change our season.”
The coach said he noted a number of positives in the defeat against Highlanders.
