YOUTH, Sports, Arts and Recreation Minister, Kirsty Coventry, briefed the Zimbabwean community in England about the football reforms and work being done to get the country back into the international football family.
She met some members of the Zimbabwean community during her recent visit to London.
“We had a vibrant discussion on Zimbabwean football, reforms and the current FIFA suspension,” said Marshall Gore, one of the most influential Zimbabwean sports personalities based in the United Kingdom,
“The Minister assured us that her office is working 24/7 engaging both FIFA & CAF on the matter.
“We will continue to liaise with her on progress and give you updates.”
Gore is part of the leadership of the Diaspora Sports, Arts and Recreation.
Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the UK, Colonel Katsande, and his deputy, Elisha Karodza, attended the meeting.
“During the meeting, we agreed on areas of cooperation:
l Promoting sports tourism.
l Promoting and selling Zimbabwe arts and culture abroad.
l Creating opportunities for youth in Zimbabwe.
l Supporting the Ministry with strategies to combat drug abuse.
l Partnership with the Ministry in developing sports at grassroots level.
l The Ministry will facilitate Zimbabwean professional athletes based in the Diaspora to be registered with sports associations at home.
l Diaspora athletes competing at international level representing Zimbabwe will be eligible to apply for funding from their respective sporting mother bodies at home if they meet the criteria.
