THE West Indies Under-19 cricket team set an unassailable total in their colossal 167 runs victory over Zimbabwe in the second round of matches in the ICC Under-19 World Cup Group C at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi yesterday.Tagenarine Chanderpaul top scored for the Windies with an unbeaten 84 runs from 135 deliveries which inspired them to reach 275 runs for five wickets off their allotted 50 overs.
Zimbabwe faltered in their chase, only managing 108 runs in 39.4 overs. Jonathan Drakes scored a quick-fire 50 runs from 54 balls while opener Shimron Hetmyer scored a well deserved 49 runs partnering Chanderpaul in a 69-run opening stand.
Zimbabwe took a dip in their performance coming from victories against Australia in the warm-up stages and a six wicket triumph over Canada on Friday.
The West Indies, meanwhile, found redemption in the victory as they had earlier crashed to South Africa by six wickets.
Zimbabwe were weakened by the collapse of their top order which saw Tarisai Musakanda departing on the third delivery of the innings and Joylord Gumbie following in the very next over.
