MERVIN Green, the general manager for development at the South African Rugby Union, has hailed the Zimbabwe Rugby Union for their adherence to internal legislation as they conducted their 119th annual meeting at Prince Edward School yesterday.The meeting was attended by all the stakeholders who included those from national team committees, the ZRU board members, representatives from the Sports Commission and various affiliates of the Zimbabwean rugby fraternity.
Green, a respected member of the world rugby fraternity, expressed his satisfaction towards the proceedings at the meeting. “I am pretty much happy with how the meeting went; it has been dealt with in an appropriate manner, in accordance with the constitution.
“It is important that we mention that if we do an annual general meeting it has to be in accordance with your constitution and ZRU managed to do that.
“Governance issues will always be there, but I think you will find it everywhere, in any corporation whether it is a sporting organisation or something else and it is upon the union on how they deal with it,” he said. ZRU presented their 2013 consolidated financial report, a strategic plan, and a plethora of dossiers that define the operational and policy parameters that govern the board.
Green did admit that his assessment and perception of the state of rugby in this country was purely based on documentation presented to him by the rugby mother body and its auditors Masterway Executive Consulting and no physical evaluation was conducted.
