Westerhof in men’s singles final

AS had largely been expected, Dutch player and top seed Boy Westerhof burst into the final of the men’s singles at the ITF Twenty Third Century Systems tournament at the Harare Sports Club yesterday.
Westerhof advanced to the final after beating third seeded South African Tucker Vorster in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

Westerhof looked to have finally hit his stride by taking 13 maximum points in a row and hitting eight aces on his way to victory. In the other semi-final, fourth seed Ruan Reolofse of South Africa denied Antal Van Der Duim a chance to make it an All-Dutch final by upsetting him 6-4, 7-5. Van Der Duim seemed to be calm as he did not commit any double faults but he failed to break the French’s serves.

Westerhof will now hope to add the Zimbabwe Future’s tournament to his collection when he faces Reolofse today at Harare Sports Club.

Van Der Duim got the win he desperately wanted when he and his partner Westerhof beat the French duo of Arthur Surreaux and Gregoirre Barrere to win the doubles final.

It was an intense match as the Dutch lost the first set and had to force the match into a third set tie breaker winning 3-6, 6-2, 10-7.
