Both teams are tied on 10 points with Western Panthers having played seven matches while Gweru Sports Club have competed in eight encounters.
Western Panthers have former Cheetahs star Silethokuhle “Slatter” Ndlovu, Masimba Musiyapinda, up-and-coming star Irvine “Bhuda” Nduwa, Knowledge Moyo and Tichaona Mupamadzi to bank on today.
“We have been training hard and I am confident that we will survive the chop at the end of the season. We just have to fight hard and avoid losing by bigger margins and maximise on home advantage,” said Western Panthers coach George Mukorera.
Western Panthers are coming from a 108-8 defeat away to log leaders Harare Sports Club.
The only Bulawayo club with a chance of making it to the end of season semi-finals, Matabeleland Warriors will play host to log anchors Airforce.
The Bulawayo star-studded team is expected to stroll past the struggling club and have been boosted by the availability of eighthman Biselele Tshamala who plays for Old Boys in Durban, South Africa.
Matabeleland Warriors coach Rueben Kumpasa said morale in his camp was high.
“We are definitely going for maximum points and everyone is raring to go. We do not have any injuries to worry about,” Kumpasa said.
Lucky Sithole, Moses Makhiwa, Ozy Lynx, Dumi Bhebhe, Cheetahs and Sables’ fringe winger Lloyd Machanjaire, Velile Dube and Jafet Ndebele are some of Matabeleland Warriors players to watch for.
Former Miltonian Terence Kuvarega, Percy Ncube and Tapiwa Mangezi are also expected to lead Matabeleland Warriors in their hunt for maximum points this afternoon.
