Westlea FC to host year-end party

WESTLEA FC are set to host an end-of-year party with an internal game at Christ Ministries on Saturday.

The social football club will divide their players based on their drinking habits – the non-alcoholics and the alcoholics.

This has been the team’s culture since 2016 when members agreed to play each other towards the end of the year.

In an interview, Clerk Mashange, who will represent the non-alcoholics, said he was expecting a tough match. “I know it’s going to be a tough match, but in football there are three results, but we want to win to defend our title.

“However, the reason behind this fixture is to just have fun since we are closing the season.

“It’s also an opportunity for us to get together with other club members, sharing business ideas, as well as planning for next season,” he said.

The Alcoholics’ captain, Diamond Sibanda, gave a more detailed account of how this fixture started.

“It all started in 2016 when we decided to go to Murewa for a memorial match for the late Dovi.

“When we arrived in Murewa, Team Dhakwaz as they call us now, could not resist the temptation of hanging out at a local club.

“We lost track of time and only got back to camp around 4am and the following morning we were benched and team Sober played the first match against Murewa Rovers.”
