“Kwacha” (a Nyanja word meaning “a new day”) would be the second offering from the acclaimed jazz musician following her successful debut album “Utonga”, which was released in 2010.
WeUtonga was optimistic about her forthcoming album which she said dwells and reflects on social issues that are well complemented with fusion of jazz and marimba beat.
“I have been working on this album for the past year. All is set and I hope all my fans will receive and embrace it as it highlights social issues,” said WeUtonga.
“I always talk of everyday life and social issues through music. The album title ‘Kwacha’ suggests a continuation of my growth in the industry and the brightening of the new day. If there is an overall message conveyed in this album it must be urging people to be liberal and balance it with being responsible,” she said.
WeUtonga rose to fame through her debut album “Utonga” in 2010 and from there she has not looked back as she was nominated as 2012-2013 Nama outstanding actress for a one-woman play.
She began her career in the late 90s while performing with the Army Band at Brady Barracks in Bulawayo where she has also featured for groups like Siyeza Jazz and an all-female jazz group Amakhosikazi.
