WHAT A HUGE FLOP

. . . Magacha’s ambitious HICC project crumbles

SABASTIAN Magacha had a nightmarish weekend after his Fill-up HICC gig DISMALLY flopped.

Despite having household names on the line-up, led by Jah Prayzah and Mambo Dhuterere, the venue proved too big for the Bhosvo singer.

Some will say Magacha deserves to be saluted for his bravery.

However, this was a rude awakening for the singer whose expectations were clearly too high.

He also celebrated 20 years in the game, but the attendance was not what the singer expected.

Hopefully, the award-winning singer did not incur huge losses since hiring the Harare International Conference does not come cheap.

A close friend to Magacha blamed the poor attendance on bad timing.

“I think many people wanted to attend the event but I think the timing was wrong.

“It’s almost month-end, with the third term about to start, so I think fans had other priorities than attending this gig.

“His team slept on duty, but we are happy that the event went according to plan,” he said.

“It is my wish that fellow artists have learnt a lesson that hosting a show requires other partners to come on board and help you.

“You can’t do everything on your own as an artist as was the case with Magacha.”

A day before the show, Magacha sold his fans a dummy after he lied that VIP tickets were sold out when most seats were empty.

Whether it was a plot to hype the show or not, the stunt backfired and he will always rue the trick.

Despite all the hype, the auctioning of the CD was pathetic with the highest sale for his album being US$1000, a tenth of what Mark Ngwazi received for an album from the highest bidder.

Besides the poor attendance, Magacha appeared determined to have a good day in the office, alongside Jah Prayzah, who complimented the singer.

Jah Prayzah delivered a polished act and proved his versatility on the night gospel artistes dominated.
