show was poorly advertised and the organisers, who are obviously new to the business, failed to start on time and staged an amateurish pageant.
Despite playing host to some of Harare’s talented models on the night, it was the manner with which the whole show was organised that dampened the event.
However, at the end of the day there was supposed to be a winner and the judges picked vivacious Panashe Munetsi, as Harare’s Next Top Model from a bevy of 23 other models. Munetsi already holds other titles like
Miss Teen Zimbabwe First Princess and Miss Teen Kadoma.
Stella Chamatumba won the Miss Personality title. She will represent Harare in Zimbabwe’s Next Top Model contest to be held later this year alongside Lizelle Jenkins, Tanya Taderera, Babe Matsetsema, Michelle Manamike and Nancy Chizhanje.
From Harare the search for Zimbabwe’s Next Top Model moves to Bulawayo, Kwekwe and Gweru. At least six male models took part in a fashion show held to showcase the winter/summer collection. ZBC-TV talk show host Alice Makaya and former Studio 263 actor Tapiwa Mavindidze were some of the judges on the night.
“If I had my way I would have chosen all of you because you were good, but it’s unfortunate that only eight are going to represent Harare,” said Makaya before announcing the top eight models.
Former model and director of Prestige Modelling Agency Sandra Chawabvunza said the show went well.
“The models will undergo grooming workshops and will learn how to become professional models to improve their careers in the modelling industry,” said Chawabvunza.
Energetic hip-hop dance group High Definition and musician Freeman of the hit song “Joina City” entertained the small crowd.
The pageant was an initiative of Joina City shops like Global Fashions, Against All Odds, Skin Spa, Lady Accessory, Mahogany Beauty Salon and Sondela Restaurant.
