What makes Chirikure tick?

The prestigious “BAAD Artiste in Berlin Fellowship Programme” saw him touring Europe for performances and lectures among other activities.
Apart from sharing his experiences and talking about his works, this discussion will present an opportunity for many to get up-close and personal with the poet.
The evening will include an interview led by author and poet Memory Chirere, who will also be the director of ceremonies.
The audience will also get a chance to ask questions and participate in the discussion.
One of the main activities at this event will be the live poetry performance by Chirikure Chirikure.
He is expected to perform selected solo pieces and some in collaboration with mbira stars Chiwoniso Maraire and Okay Machisa.
As he winds up his Zimbabwean visit he has promised to give a memorable performance as his gift and show of love to everyone who has supported his journey in the arts.
Since returning to Zimbabwe two weeks ago, Chirikure Chirikure has held meetings with other Zimbabwean writers, mbira performers, poets among other artistes to try and share with them about opportunities which they can make use of, as well as create a strong network with fellow artistes.
Chirikure Chirikure will also talk about his new book (a poetry anthology), written in Shona and English with German translations.
The book comes with a recorded poetry CD and will be on sale on the day. One of his recent achievements is the decision by Vienna Airport, Austria, to display his new Shona poem in their departure lounge with effect from this month.
The poem is about “The Journeys of Our Lives”.

“His experiences will benefit many artistes. We                   also believe that the discussion will be a great opportunity for the visibility of the literary events in Zimbabwe.
“He is a role model for many Zimbabweans and having the rare opportunity to see him in person and in performance at no cost is truly wonderful,” he said.
The discussion is being supported by Pamberi Trust and the Embassy of Spain and will be held at the embassy’s Cultural Centre located at 16 Phillips Avenue, Belgravia.
