What went wrong with Hakeem?

were equally surprised to see Hakeem out of the reality show.

So emotional was Hakeem that during his interview with show host IK, he was almost in tears and so was everybody else.
Since the beginning of Big Brother Africa The Chase, most viewers thought Hakeem was in it to win it since that embarrassment by two previous housemates Rockford Josphats and Maneta Mazanhi. The two were disqualified after brawl while in the house.

Even though Hakeem had managed to renew hope for Zimbabweans in the reality show, he forgot one cardinal rule — never mix business with pleasure.
So as we look at what went wrong with Hakeem, it is clear there were a number of glaring mistakes that he made. Firstly, the love for Cleo from Zambia took the better of him such that instead of focusing on the prize he lost sight and became emotionally attached to Cleo.

Big Brother is just a game but you need to be a player to be able to stay focused. Definitely Hakeem is not a player because if he was one, he would have known that his romance with Cleo was nothing but a thrill and when that thrill is gone you will be in the cold.

As we speak, Hakeem is all alone unless Cleo comes out in the open and tell the continent about the status of their affair. Maybe we shouldn’t persecute Hakeem for falling in love with Cleo but then if we look back, Team Hakeem was nothing to write home about.

Remember at the beginning of the reality show, Team Pokello did not hide from anyone and they started off their campaign on a high note.
Pokello’s family was at the forefront of spearheading the campaign despite Pokello’s controversial past. Of course, there is no denying that Pokello is the sort of character needed in the show. Following her sex tape with her on-off boyfriend Desmond “Stunner” Chideme, Pokello’s rating actually peaked and she became famous for albeit the wrong reasons.

The sex tape did not in any way stop Team Pokello from campaigning. Yes, everybody falls in love at some point but Hakeem shouldn’t have focused on love and relationship since there was a much bigger fish to fry.

If he had stayed in the game and maybe emerge the winner imagine how many more “Cleos” would have come his way. So much for matters of the heart.
And now Pokello is everywhere in the papers, billboards and magazines while Team Hakeem remains elusive. Some would argue that those who are voting Pokello are doing so not for her sake but for other things for instance, her family particularly her father, her background and what have you.

There is no denying Team Pokello has spent a fortune to rally support for the Zimbabwean lass. They did their homework and have so far succeeded in keeping Pokello in the house against all odds.

You can’t blame Team Pokello, yes they are well-oiled and have been out and about campaigning for people to vote Pokello. Just last week, there was a road show in Chitungwiza where they distributed T-shirts and caps to everyone.

Another factor that perhaps affected Hakeem’s camp was that the people who were supposed to spearhead the campaign were actually frustrating the media as well as those who were willing to support him.

When The Herald tried to reach out to Team Hakeem, the guys were not only arrogant but also lacked strategy. It was really difficult to gain access to Hakeem’s family and MultiChoice Zimbabwe made it worse by not giving details of Hakeem’s home and family.

So from the outset, Hakeem had a mammoth task of trying to get people to vote for him even though they didn’t know him and secondly his love for Cleo got the better of him.

At first it worked since Zambia voted for him but then when the Zambians realised that his own country Zimbabwe had not voted for him they too chose to vote for their kith and kin in the second nomination and that is why he got zero votes.

He is also to blame since he could have fought hard to win the Head of House challenge so that in case he was put for eviction he would save himself by up somebody else for eviction. Now that’s being smart.

Perhaps, the swapping of housemates between houses by Big Brother was a bit confusing to the housemates. This is because Zimbabwe has been put up for eviction for six successive weeks while Nigerians had not been up for eviction.

Munyaradzi Chidzonga made history by surviving evictions a record nine times during Big Brother All Stars and eventually lost by one country vote to Nigerian Uti Nwachwuku.
Hakeem returns home today at 12.20pm.
