“THEY told him, ‘Joseph is still alive and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt!’ Jacob was stunned, for he did not believe them.” — Genesis 45:26
This is a story where Joseph’s father, Jacob, learns that his son is not dead but alive, despite the fact that evidence was brought to him in the form of a coat stained with blood.
The world can bring evidence of your downfall, but is it true that you are dead and buried? This revelation brings hope not only to Jacob but to us as well. Just as Joseph rose from the depths of despair to reign in Egypt, we too can find hope in the resurrection of our dreams, relationships and aspirations.
Many of us have dreams that seem to have died. Perhaps you have faced setbacks in your career, your marriage feels stagnant or your health has taken a turn for the worse.
But let me remind you: Whatever you thought was dead is still alive!Just as Joseph was thought to have been lost forever, only to emerge as a leader, your dreams can be resurrected. God is in the business of bringing life to what seems lifeless.
Consider the moment at Jesus’ tomb.
The women came to embalm a dead body, but they were met with the glorious news: “He is not here; He has risen!” (Luke 24:6). This is the essence of our faith! What we perceive as the end is often just the beginning. Jesus conquered death, and in Him, we find the assurance that our hopes and dreams can also rise again. Joseph did not just come back to life; he was elevated to the position of governor in Egypt. God has a plan to elevate you from your lowly state to a place of honour.
Your struggles are not in vain; they are preparing you for a greater purpose. Just as Joseph was positioned to save many lives during the famine, you too are being prepared for a divine assignment. There is a beautiful saying that runs: “They tried to bury us; they did not know we are seeds”. Child of God, you are a seed! You cannot die but live to proclaim the goodness of our God in the land of the living.
Just as a seed must be buried to grow, your trials and tribulations are the soil from which your new life will spring forth. Embrace the process, for God is nurturing you for a fruitful future.
As we reflect on Joseph’s story and the resurrection of Jesus, let us hold onto hope. Whatever you thought was dead — your dreams; your relationships; your health; your children; your business; and your spiritual, social and financial life — God is breathing life into them.
He is about to enthrone that which was thought dead and buried. Trust in His mighty power, for we serve a God who specialises in miracles. Let us proclaim together: “What was dead is alive!” Amen!
