POLICE are sounding the alarm after a terrifying incident saw a 30-year-old Chitungwiza woman robbed and raped after she responded to a job offer advertised on WhatsApp. The case has prompted the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to issue a stern warning, on X, against seeking employment or other services through unverified social media contacts.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was offered a shopkeeper position in Domboshava by an unknown “woman” via WhatsApp on 22 June 2025. Lured by the prospect of a job, she traveled to Mungate Business Centre as instructed.
Upon arrival, she was told to wait for someone to pick her up. It was then that two male suspects approached her, claiming to have been sent by the “woman” who had offered the job. The unsuspecting victim was then taken to Crowhill, Borrowdale,
Harare, where the situation took a horrific turn. The two men proceeded to rob her before taking turns to rape her.
The police emphasised the critical need for the public to verify the identity of individuals offering employment or private engagements through social media platforms. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking online and the importance of extreme caution when dealing with unverified contacts.
