A 27-YEAR-OLD Kadoma woman, Vernah Madhlangove, has landed herself in major trouble after using WhatsApp to stir up violence and chaos in her community.
Madhlangove appeared before the Kadoma Magistrates’ Court facing serious charges of incitement to commit public violence. Prosecutors say she used a grey Tecno Pop 6 Go phone to send inciteful messages between 24 and 28 May 2025 on a group called Kadoma Misasa.
In one chilling message, she reportedly wrote, “We should assault whoever remains in the house” — a direct call to violence that sparked public alarm and drew the attention of authorities.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), her texts were meant to mobilise people for an illegal demonstration against the Government of Zimbabwe set for 29 May.
She was denied bail and will remain in custody until 12 June.
Court officials say this case sends a strong message to those abusing social media. “Freedom of expression is not a licence to promote anarchy,” said a legal officer outside court.
