THE total payments for wheat deliveries has reached US$28 million and ZiG230 million as the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) continues to intensify efforts to enhance productivity and production of the crop to help the country increase wheat-based food self-sufficiency.
This follows the disbursement by Treasury of US$5m and ZiG15 million received by the grain utility this week.
Giving an update on wheat farmers payment, GMB chief executive officer, Mr Edison Badarai commended Government for mobilising resources to smoothen preparations for the winter wheat cropping season.
“The Grain Marketing Board has received US$5 million and ZiG15 million for wheat payments this week, bringing total payments for wheat deliveries to US$28 million and ZiG230 million.
“The Board greatly appreciates all the efforts put in place by Treasury to mobilise resources as farmers prepare for the winter wheat cropping season,” said Mr Badarai.
Mr Badarai said GMB appreciates farmers’ resilience and commitment in the wheat value chain.
