FIRST they travelled without a substitute goalkeeper and were forced to field a defender in-between the sticks after their first choice goal minder had been red carded.
That is the story of Bulawayo City when in June the team travelled to play Caps United with one goalkeeper Wellington Muuya.
As fate would have it Muuya was red carded, forcing then head coach Amini Soma Phiri to draft defender Crispen Ncube in-between goal.
The team lost 0-1 to Caps United.
Hardly three months after that embarrassing boob, Bulawayo City were at it again when they arrived ten minutes before playing Nichrut in Gweru last Wednesday. Of course they lost 0-1 to the Shurugwi-based team.
“We had a breakdown on our way here but we communicated as soon as we had the problem but, unfortunately, we never had a chance for warm-up which might have affected the boys in the game,’’ said Bulawayo City coach Bekithemba Ndlovu.
Since Ndlovu took over from axed head coach Phiri in July, he has not won a single match and the team looks destined for relegation from the Premier Soccer League.
What is happening at Bulawayo City?
Word is that the club executive is pulling in different directions as one section was against the firing of Phiri in July.
In fact, as reported by B-Metro Sport after Phiri was shown the door, he gate crushed a promptly arranged meeting that had been called behind his back to fire him after being tipped by a sympathetic club executive member.
Bulawayo City are the only team that have fired two coaches in succession this season. First it was Darlington Dodo to hit the road and he was replaced by Phiri.
Phiri was also later given his marching orders.
Repeated efforts to get a comment from club chairman Jerry Sibanda drew blanks.
