WHO IS THE KING?

IT’s another night when local football will crown its KING.

And, the question is who will succeed Walter Musona as Soccer Star of the Year?

We will know at some point tonight and there is no clear favourite for the accolade.

One of the 11 players, who illuminated the scene and were selected by a panel of journalists, coaches and captains on Tuesday, will win the award.

Ngezi Platinum Stars, who won the championship, have the highest number of players on the calendar with three of their men vying for the award.

Dynamos and Highlanders weighed with two players each.

The Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year will all be announced at a banquet to be held at a Harare hotel tonight.

The player, who is the fans’ choice, will also be honoured.

Takuda Benhura will receive his Golden Boot award after scoring 13 goals during the season and he could as well win the Soccer Star of the Year prize.

Benhura was very popular with voters on Tuesday with his goal-scoring exploits in only his first full Premiership season.

Dynamos midfielder Donald Mudadi could also win it.

In a season where no individual really imposed himself, Mudadi was a decent entertainer with the ball on his feet.

He scored stunning goals, too, with his beauty against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab arguably the best goal of the season.

With five goals to his name, Mudadi was the Glamour Boys’ top-goal scorer and he also contributed three assists for the Genesis Mangombe charges.

Then, there is Qadr Amini, who could win it at the age of 32, more than 10 years after he burst onto the scene.

The Goalkeeper of the Year race is between Nelson Chadya and Arial Sibanda.

The Soccer Stars Of The Year

Qadr Amini, Takunda Benhura, Nelson Chadya (all Ngezi Platinum Stars), Donald Mudadi, Tanaka Shandirwa (Dynamos), Andrew Mbeba, Ariel Sibanda (Highlanders), Tino Benza (Herentals), Fortune Binzi (Manica Diamonds) and Michael Charamba (Chicken Inn).
