WHY MALE ARTISTES PERFORM AT DOEK AND SLAY

WHILE attendances at the popular Doek and Slay is exclusive to women, questions have been asked as to why most of the performances at the various events are by male artistes.

The Doek and Slay concept has been growing popular with each outing despite some incidents that have soiled some of the gigs.

The recent event was in Mutare where EXQ and Killer T were the headline acts while the most successful gig at Alex Sports Club in Harare also had an array of male performers like Freeman, Killer T and Ex Q.

Questions have been asked why the organisers do not make the performers exclusively female given the existence of good artistes like Feli Nandi, Tamy Moyo, Fungisai, Dorcas Moyo and Selmor Mtukudzi-Manatsa among many others.

There are also many female DJs in the country.

The organiser of Doek and Slay yesterday clarified why male artists dominate the shows.

“The ladies are the ones who choose the artists they want and we are here to meet their demands.

“It’s not about who performs, even if it is a male or female artist, the parties are for ladies to enjoy their time.

“We are bringing artists that usually perform in clubs at night. So these events are giving the ladies a chance to have a good time in a space they are comfortable with.

“As much as we want to bring more female artists to perform, it’s hard because the ladies decide on who they want.”

The party rolled into Mutare on Sunday and gave the town’s women a feel of this ladies-only show, which is taking the country by storm.

Dressed in denims and white tops with a touch of a doek, the ladies understood the assignment shown by a video circulating on social media.

The event organisers explained why the same artists at the previous show in Harare were the ones at the Mutare leg.

“The reason why the same artists rotate is because we don’t want the women to complain.

“So we make sure that when an artist performs in Harare the artist will also have to move around the other cities

“We had a good time, in Mutare ladies know how to turn up,” said.

The ladies’ event will move again, this time to Caravan Park in Masvingo this weekend.

Feli Nandi and Enzo Ishall are the artists who will entertain the thousands of women expected to be part of the show.

The ladies are expected to turn up in a slay code of hot pink, lime green, or royal blue doek and some shades.
