Mtukudzi’s manager Sam Mataure said Sephuma was expecting her fifth child.
“Sephuma is expecting and because of the pregnancy she could not make it. We had everything sorted out but we were told of her condition at the last minute. We are very sorry to those who had expected to see her on stage,” Mataure said.
Earlier, Mataure had said Sephuma’s manager had arrived along with the other three South African musicians.
In an interview, Sephuma’s manager, who identified herself as Busi, confirmed the pregnancy.
“Yes, it’s true that Sephuma is expecting and she was admitted the day she was supposed to fly to Harare,” Busi said.
Asked who the father of the child was, Busi declined to comment.
Sephuma divorced her husband Selaelo Selota in 2010. The estranged couple had four children but has continued to work together both on stage and in the studio.
Selota even produced Sephuma’s album “Change Is Here”.
However, while Sephuma’s no show could have disappointed thousands of her local fans, this is not the first time a star has failed to pitch up for a show.
Only last year, the much hyped Mavado Show was postponed to a latter date after the Jamaican artiste failed to turn up, something which riled fans who had already bought tickets in advance.
In 2009, the much-hyped Shaggy Toxic Concert in Harare was a no show after the organisers cancelled the bash a day before the gig.
It emerged the organisers had not secured a work permit for the dancehall artiste.
