A WIDOW from Chiedza village under Chief Chireya in Gokwe was banished from the village after she allegedly slept with her late husband’s best friend barely a month after his death.

But Miriam Mukhahlera, a mother of two, denies sleeping with Antony Mhloro who was friends with Mukhahlera’s late husband Tazvita Moyo.

She blamed her in-laws for cooking up stories to get rid of her.

“I did not sleep with Mhloro, my in-laws lied to the headman as they wanted to get rid of me. I have since gone back to my parents’ home and I don’t want anything to do with my in-laws,” she said.

The two were allegedly caught red handed by Moyo’s sister who told her parents and they reported the matter to Headman Mabvute.

Headman Mabvute confirmed the incident saying he had to banish Mukhahlera for disrespecting her late husband.

“I presided over that matter after Mukhahlera’s in-laws reported her for her misconduct. They were not happy with her shenanigans because in our culture, a woman is compelled to wait for a year, when her husband dies.

“Initially, l wanted to make her pay five cows for disrespecting her husband and her in-laws in such an unspeakable manner, but she doesn’t have any cows so the best option was to banish her,” he said.

Headman Mabvute bemoaned the rise in cases of extra marital affairs in his area, a development he described as worrisome.
