Zimbabweans from across the country are expressing overwhelming support for Constitutional Amendment No.3 Bill, a transformative proposal designed to strengthen national leadership, safeguard the legacy of the liberation struggle, and accelerate development toward Vision 2030.

Among the most vocal supporters are the Apex Council of Widows of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle and the Apex Council for the Children of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle, who stress that CAB3 preserves the sacrifices of those who fought for independence and ensures their values guide governance.

Speaking at a press conference in Harare, acting chairperson of the Apex Council of Widows, Cde Rufaro Mupepeti, highlighted the responsibility carried by widows.

“Our husbands gave their lives for the freedom and sovereignty of this country,” she said.

“This amendment ensures their sacrifices remain alive in governance. Representation in national structures is not a privilege; it is justice for those who paid the ultimate price. We are witnesses to the liberation struggle, and our voices must continue to guide the nation.”

Cde Mupepeti emphasised that the amendment is a continuation of the liberation struggle itself.

“The foundations of Zimbabwe were built through sacrifice, discipline, and unity. Our duty is to ensure that these foundations remain intact and protected. Constitutional Amendment No. 3 gives life to the values that delivered independence and ensures they remain central to national governance.”

The Apex Council for the Children of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle has, likewise, expressed its support.

Chairperson Cde Garikai Msika said their generation represents the living continuation of the liberation movement.

“We call for our inclusion in governance to make certain that Zimbabwe remains anchored in its history,” he said.

“This amendment allows the sacrifices of our forebears to continue guiding the nation and ensures that the principles of unity, sovereignty and patriotism remain central to policy and decision-making.”

Central to both councils’ call is the inclusion of a Senate quota to represent children of liberation struggle veterans, which they describe as both just and necessary.

According to the councils, this measure would enshrine the voices of those who carry the burden of the liberation struggle within the country’s legislative framework. – Patriot.
