A HARARE man has been accused of evicting his wife pending finalisation of their divorce.

Hilda Muchenjebvu yesterday approached the Civil Court, seeking a protection order against her husband Ngonidzaishe Muchenjebvu.

She accused Ngonidzaishe of verbally abusing her and threatening to kill her.

“Sometime last week, I visited Ngonidzaishe’s workplace to understand more about the divorce that he initiated.

“He assaulted me and got me arrested, and I spent a night in police cells,” she said.

In his defence, Ngonidzaishe denied the allegations.

“I have never assaulted the applicant and I have never tried to evict her.

“I only stopped builders from developing our residential stand until our divorce is finalised,” he said.

The court heard that the residential stand belongs to Ngonidzashe’s parents and Hilda has been staying there since they separated in 2017.

Magistrate Rutendo Machingura, who presided over the matter, dismissed the protection order application for lack of merit.
