A MAN bashed his wife and bit her on the lip, thigh and hand after for saving a co-tenant’s mobile number in her phone.
In a fit of rage, Essa Bhika (21) assaulted his wife, Cleopatra Masiya (20) and bit her on the lower lip, thigh and hand, as he suspected that the two were having an affair.
Bhika appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts yesterday.
He denied assaulting his wife when he appeared before magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure in a case he is being charged with physical abuse. The State, led by Kudzanai Mudzamiri, was opposed to his release on bail, arguing that the two were sharing a matrimonial home and Bhika would interfere with the witness.
However, Bhika was released on US$40 bail and is expected back in court on December 18, for trial.
It is the State’s case that at around 8pm on November 19, Bhika found the co-tenant’s phone number in his wife’s cellphone and suspected that the two were dating.
Bhika then assaulted his wife. His sister tried to restrain him, but he allegedly threatened to kill her.
The assault only ended after Bhika’s father called the police.
Masiya sustained several injuries and was medically examined.
