they stabbed the hapless man with a knife.
The gang reportedly pummelled the 32-year-old husband with logs before stabbing him in the head with a knife after he caught them taking turns to rape his wife.
The couple is now admitted at Gutu Mission Hospital.
Masvingo police spokesman Inspector Tineyi Matake yesterday said they had since launched a manhunt for the six suspects.
“We are looking for the six assailants who are still at large after they vanished soon after raping a Bikita woman before they severely assaulted the woman’s husband leaving him unconscious.
“The woman who was raped and her husband are currently receiving treatment at Gutu Mission Hospital,” said Inspector Matake.
He said on the fateful day, the woman was at home in Bikita at around 11pm when six men pounced at the homestead and knocked at her bedroom demanding cash.
After being told that she had no cash, the six men divided themselves into two groups of three with the other group standing guard outside while the other group remained in the hut.
They then raped the woman, whose husband was intercepted by the group that was keeping sentinel as soon as he arrived.
The man was forced to watch while his wife was being raped. The group then beat the husband with logs and stabbed him twice in the head with a knife, leaving him for dead.
The gang fled after other villagers who had been alerted by the husband charged towards them.
The couple was taken to Mutikizizi Hospital before being transferred to Gutu Mission Hospital.
