A HARARE woman has approached the Civil Court seeking a protection order against her husband whom she accused of physically abusing her and damaging their property.
Miriam Anabel accused her husband, Davis Mugwadi, of assaulting her with deadly objects.
“He beats me with a metal rod on my head. Sometimes he pokes me with a screwdriver,” she said.
She narrated an incident where her husband reportedly undressed her in public.
She broke down while describing how explaining that her husband poured a bucket of urine on her face and sprayed perfume in her mouth.
Anabel testified that her husband, at times, beats her while naked in front of their children. She claimed that her husband threatened to kill her if she continued to go to work and that he also disowned the children.
“He accuses me of sleeping with my superiors at work, and he even follows me to my workplace, shouting and embarrassing me in front of my workmates,” Anabel said.
She claimed that his husband also insults her with many obscene words in the presence of their minor children.
Anabel pleaded with the court for help, saying that her husband’s actions are damaging her emotionally.
“He now forces me to have unprotected sex with him while he has an infection,” Anabel said.
Apart from abuse, Mugwadi was also accused of destroying his wife’s household property such as plates and other utensils.
In response, Mugwadi disputed the allegations, stating that his wife was cheating on him and that when he tries to reprimand her, she insults him.
“She is the one who is making my life uncomfortable by insulting me. My wife does not want to do her duties and she deprives me of my conjugal rights,” Mugwadi said.
Presiding magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam granted Anabel the protection order and warned Mugwadi against abusing his wife and children.
