A HARARE woman has approached the Harare Civil Court seeking a protection order against her husband citing allegations of infidelity, physical abuse and damaging property.
Ms Nancy Zvomewa revealed that her husband Moses Zviuya was in the habit of bringing different women to their home, damaging her property and physically abusing her.
“l am tired of this man. He does not even respect me or our matrimonial home. l am being treated for many STIs due to his behaviour,” said Ms Zvomewa.
She said her husband told her that he intends to marry four wives.
Ms Zvomewa said her husband assaults her with deadly weapons like knives especially when he is drunk.
She said the abuse has affected her emotionally and psychologically since it happens in the presence of her husband’s friends.
She said at times he comes home drunk at midnight with his friends and demands that she cooks porridge for them at those odd hours. If she refuses, they beat her up.
Ms Zvomwewa said her husband has been threatening her with death while asking her to leave the house so that he will be free to do whatever he wants. She further said even her husband’s friends are also in that habit of bringing their girlfriends to their home and use some of their spare bedrooms.
Ms Zvomwewa said she was afraid that if she leaves the house her children may be abused by their own father since one of his friends once attempted to sexually abuse their sons.
“My husband also took some of my household property, sold it and squandered the money with his girlfriends. He also damaged my refrigerator,” she said.
She also accused her husband of using obscene words in front of the children and in public.
Ms Zvomwewa indicated that her husband was refusing to sleep with her accusing her of infecting him with STIs.
She accused her husband of stripping her naked in front of his friends resulting in some of them making advances at her.
In response, Mr Zviuya disputed the allegations of physical abuse and property damage but admitted to insulting her because she is too talkative.
“She wants to control me everytime, sometimes she follows me to one of my friend’s house, shouting and accusing me of sleeping with her friend,” said Mr Zviuya.
Zviuya said he was the one living like a slave at his own house since his wife usually went away without informing him.
After both parties gave their testimonies, magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam granted the order in favour of Ms Zvomewa.
She told Zviuya to refrain from physically abusing his wife, damaging her property and to respect their matrimonial home.
