Peter Marime (33) had pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of culpable homicide arguing that he had not intentionally killed his wife when his trial opened before Justice Samuel Kudya.
However, after a full trial, Justice Kudya and two assessors found him guilty of murder with actual intent.
Passing sentence, the judge noted that what Marime did to his wife was “inhuman and unacceptable.”
“Accused person you killed your wife over a stupid reason, the treatment is inhuman and degrading,” he said.
Charges against Marime of Mukoyi Village under Chief Mutasa arose on July 3 2006 after he was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife over attending a funeral.
Marime wanted his wife to stay at home and look after their sick child.
He then punched his wife and continuously bashed her on the back of thehead.
The wife collapsed and died instantly from head injuries sustained.
