A MUTARE woman has dragged her husband to Mutare Magistrates Civil Court to seek US$100 as maintenance for the couple’s two minor children.
In her application, Thokhozile Chinyangome claimed that her husband, Simbarashe Makumbe, is not taking care of the children, yet he runs a bar and a shop.
She further stated that Makumbe realises US$300 every month.
Chinyangome also told the court that she and her children are staying at her parent’s home after Makumbe kicked her out of her matrimonial home.
She said she was chased away from her home upon her return from Mozambique where she had gone to visit her aunt who was not feeling well.
“He chased me away from home when I returned from Mozambique where I had gone to visit my aunt who was not feeling well. He told me that I was supposed to seek his permission first before travelling to Mozambique,” she said.
However, Makumbe said Chinyangome was lying that he kicked her out of their matrimonial home.
“I did not stop her from visiting her ailing aunt in Mozambique. On her way back from Mozambique, she first visited her sister. When I asked her about it, she packed her bags and left for her parents’ home,” said Makumbe.
He also said Chinyangome is a drunkard who at times leaves the shop and bar unattended while watching social soccer at the local school grounds.
“This lady is in the habit of coming home late and drunk.
“She at times leaves the shop and bar unattended while she watches soccer at the school grounds. I once engaged her parents over her beer drinking habits, but she did not change.
“When I realised that she was still drinking beer, I moved to another bedroom because I cannot stand sleeping with a woman who drinks beer, yet I don’t drink,” said Makumbe.
He also said Chinyangome went behind his back to apply for property sharing, yet they discussed the issue and came up with an amicable solution.
Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato presided over the matter.
He granted Chinyangome US$75 as maintenance for the two children.
