A Harare woman has told the court that she is constantly crying due to abuse at the hands of her husband since they got married.
Sheila Chiweshe approached the Harare Civil Court seeking a protection order against her husband, Tendai Chiweshe, accusing him of emotionally, verbally and sexually abusing her.
“My husband has been abusing me almost every day. Ndogara ndichisvimha misodzi nekuda kwake.
“He insults me in front of our children and neighbours, calling me a prostitute. He does drugs and accuses me of injecting him with sleeping medicine so that he sleeps and I can sneak out for prostitution.
“He chased me from our bedroom and I went to my children’s bedroom, asi anouya achindirova achiti muno mukunhuhwa mutoriro,” said Sheila.
In response, Tendai disputed her testimony.
“Your Worship, my wife bought these pills lying that they were for fever, but I consulted my private doctor and he told me they are sleeping tablets.
“She poured water on my passport and it’s no longer of use because of her.”
However, magistrate Tamara Chibindi granted the protection order to Sheila and ordered Tendai to stop harassing, abusing and intimidating his wife.
