A Harare woman, Miriam Anabel, has applied for a protection order against her husband, Davis Mugwadi, accusing him of physical abuse and damaging her property.
In a tearful testimony before the Civil Court, Anabel described a series of alarming incidents.
“He beats me with a metal rod on my head. Sometimes he pokes me with a screwdriver,” she said
She recounted a particularly distressing event where Mugwadi undressed her in public and poured a bucket of urine on her face, spraying perfume into her mouth afterwards.
Anabel further revealed that her husband often assaults her while naked in front of their children and has threatened to kill her if she continues going to work.
“He accuses me of sleeping with my superiors at work and even follows me there, shouting and embarrassing me in front of my colleagues,” she said.
Anabel also raised concerns about being forced into unprotected intercourse while her husband has an infection.
Additionally, she accused Mugwadi of destroying household items, including plates and utensils.
In response, Mugwadi denied the allegations, claiming that Anabel is unfaithful.
He argued that when he tries to confront her about her behaviour, she reports him for insults.
“She is the one making my life uncomfortable,” he said, adding that she neglects her household duties and deprives him of his conjugal rights.
After hearing both testimonies, presiding magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam granted a protection order in favour of Anabel. The court instructed Mugwadi to refrain from abusing his wife and children and to stop damaging her property.
