A BULAWAYO man is living in terror after his wife of 17 years allegedly dumped him and their children for a new lover and then returned only to spit venom and threaten to kill the entire family.

A quiet home in harmony has allegedly turned into a battlefield after Davidzo Mhoni tasted new love and, according to her husband, went completely wild.

Joseph Chikwevo told the court that after falling for another man, his wife abandoned her family, disappearing for days on end until 17 October when she walked out for good and moved in with her new lover.

From that moment, Chikwevo says, the woman he once knew became a stranger with a vicious streak.
In his affidavit he said: “I’m the applicant in this matter. Davidzo Mhoni is my wife and we have been married for 17 years. Our marriage started to develop problems after she fell in love with her new lover and would at times go for days without returning home. On 17 October last month she deserted our family home to stay with her new lover.

When she comes to visit children she would threaten to kill me and our children. As such I’m living in fear. I pray that this court grants me a protection order.”

He told the court his wife no longer speaks like a partner but like an enemy out for revenge, adding that she hurls insults and treats him with contempt.

“Her unbecoming behaviour towards me has demeaned me and wrecked my reputation. The children are also emotionally disturbed,” he said.

The court gallery listened in stunned silence as Chikwevo explained how each visit from his estranged wife felt like a fresh danger alert.

However, Mhoni denied everything.
Taking to the dock she said: “I have never threatened to kill him or beat him. He is just fabricating a story. He does not want me to visit our children.”

The couple’s ages were not disclosed in court and the number of children they have was also not mentioned.
After hearing both sides, magistrate Vimbayi Chirayi granted Chikwevo a protection order. Mhoni was barred from verbally or physically abusing him, from threatening to kill or harm him and from visiting him at his workplace.
The order will stand for five years.
