WOLVES utility man, Marshall Munetsi has joined the Warriors in South Africa ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg tomorrow.
Munetsi missed Friday’s match against Benin in Abidjan due to suspension and is expected to provide options for under-fire coach, Michael Nees, whose side remains winless in the campaign.
The Warriors can no longer progress from the group and will use the remaining three matches to salvage some pride and also prepare for the AFCON finals set for Morocco in December.
Zimbabwe are bottom of the group with four points from four draws, while South Africa are sitting comfortably on 16 points while Benin are second on 12 points.
The Warriors trained at the University of Johannesburg yesterday and there were no injury worries in the squad.
Rwanda go into tomorrow’s match still smarting from Saturday’s defeat against Nigeria (0-1) courtesy of substitute Tolu Arokodare’s overhead kick early in the second half.
The win moved Nigeria up to third in the standings, six points behind leaders South Africa with three matches remaining. Nigeria visit the South Africans tomorrow in what could be the key fixture of the Group C campaign.
South Africa, however, are expected to be docked three points for using a defaulter in March but have surprisingly not yet been sanctioned by FIFA.
The group winners qualify automatically for the 2026 finals in North America.
Nigeria might have to do without top striker Victor Osimhen tomorrow, with the former African Footballer of the Year forced off with an injury to his left foot in the first half. It is not yet clear whether he will make the trip to South Africa.
Arokodare, recently signed by Wolverhampton Wanderers, got a touch to Ola Aina’s 52nd-minute effort, steering the ball in from just under the bar as Nigeria finally breached a tight visiting defence.
Rwanda dropped to fourth in the standings with eight points from their seven Group C outings.
