HIGHLANDERS manager, the legendary Willard Mashinkila Kumalo, is alive and well contrary to rumours that he has passed on.
The club has since expressed its disgust over the rumour and said “Nduna” was instead on official sick leave, hence his absence from the bench last week.
Chronicle Sport has been receiving incessant phone calls from concerned members of the public seeking confirmation on whether Khumalo had indeed passed on as reported on social media, especially Facebook.
“It’s so unAfrican really for people to talk about someone’s death when he is alive and kicking, Willard as we all know is recuperating and was on sick leave but for someone to start spreading such lies is not fair both to the club and Willard himself,” said Highlanders chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede.
He said people should first seek confirmation from the club authorities before rushing to post such disturbing news on social networks.
Kumalo’s “death rumour” started circulating last week following the 3-1 win over army side Black Rhinos and the rumour hit peak level yesterday morning.
Some concerned Highlanders and non-Highlanders fans started sending in their condolence messages while others were asking about the burial dates.
The former Highlanders utility player was even at yesterday’s derby against How Mine at Barbourfields and looked to be recovering.
His relative Sydney Dube said he was disturbed by those spreading the lies.
