WILLIAMS WALKS BACK: Taylor joins Chevrons T20 comeback squad

VETERAN all-rounder Sean Williams has made a dramatic return to Zimbabwe’s T20I fold after more than a year on the sidelines, with the Chevrons naming him in their 16-man squad to face Sri Lanka in a three-match series starting tomorrow at Harare Sports Club.

Williams had “retired” from the shortest format in May 2024 after the Bangladesh tour, but the retirement was never officially confirmed by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC). Now, the left-hander, who sits as Zimbabwe’s second-highest T20I run scorer, is back in red.
Also staging a comeback is experienced wicketkeeper-batter Brendan Taylor, who has been handed another crack at the format after years away.

Joining the returning duo are Brad Evans and Tadiwanashe Marumani, while Newman Nyamhuri, Wessly Madhevere, Vincent Masekesa and Tafadzwa Tsiga have been dropped from the squad that recently played in the triangular series against South Africa and New Zealand.
The series against Sri Lanka is part of Zimbabwe’s final tune-up ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier which Harare will host later this month.

Matches are slated for Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, all at Harare Sports Club with a 1.30 pm start.
Zimbabwe’s squad has a mix of experience and fresh legs, with captain Sikandar Raza leading a side that hopes to build consistency before the qualifiers.

Zimbabwe T20I squad to face Sri Lanka:
Sikandar Raza (Captain), Brian Bennett, Ryan Burl, Brad Evans, Trevor Gwandu, Clive Madande, Tinotenda Maposa, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Tony Munyonga, Tashinga Musekiwa, Blessing Muzarabani, Dion Myers, Richard Ngarava, Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams.

The return of Williams and Taylor is expected to bolster both experience and batting depth as the Chevrons eye a strong finish to their home season.
