HERENTALS goalkeeper, Takudzwa Chikosi, has challenged his teammates to win the Chibuku Super Cup for club owner Innocent Benza.
Chikosi is on the verge of writing his own piece of history by becoming first goalie to scoop the Chibuku Super Cup Golden Glove at the age of 19, should they win the final.
The Students travel to Bulawayo for the final against Bulawayo Chiefs at Barbourfields Stadium.
It’s Chikosi’s debut season and he managed an impressive 15 clean sheets.
He was just four behind Ngezi Platinum Stars’ Nelson Chadya, who won the league’s Golden Glove race with 19 clean sheets.
Chikosi is among the favourites to win the Rookie of the Year award alongside Jayden Bakare of Whawha and FC Platinum’s Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya.
The keeper has been at the heart of the club’s success with his brilliance.
He saved four penalties in the just-ended campaign and the Students will need him to be at his best for them to take home their first silverware in the top-flight.
“We are not under any pressure to win the final. As a team we have done well to reach the finals and that alone is a victory to us.
“However, since it’s a final, we are fully aware of what we are required to do.
“This is the best moment for us to repay club owner Innocent Benza for what he has done for many of us,” said Chikosi.
“Most of us had nothing before we joined the club, but Mr Benza invested a lot for us to be where we are. “We cannot ruin this opportunity and nobody knows if we are ever going to make it to the final again.
“This is our defining moment as players to give everything for our boss and a win will also enable us to play in the African Safari, and I believe the dream is within reach.
“Our ladies’ side, Herentals Queen, have already played their part by winning the Women’s Super League and the ball is now in our court,” he said.
