His recent album Gafa Life Kickstape recorded by Ke Nako Muzik has made him one of the most sought-after artistes in the country with tracks like summer anthem Woshora, Gafa Life and Disappear putting him back on the limelight.
With catchy lyrics, songs Disappear and Woshora are being used as ringtones by many, seen by the way people are quick to check their phones once a phone rings with either of those tones. Lyrics, maproblems ese disappear have caught the attention of many with most local Facebook users posting flashy pictures of themselves and captioning them with those lyrics. Memes have also been created.
Winky D’s presence is heavily felt, be it on radio, in a kombi, barber shop, bar or a friend’s house, the Gafa is everywhere.
The young ones have not been left out as they can be spotted singing along to songs off Winky’s latest offering.
As Seh Calaz bluntly put it on his Chitunha Chamuka (a song where he disses Winky D), it is true that the “dead” singer has risen. After some time without producing a hit song, the Gafa is back with a bang. His last notable song was Ninja Saturday released in 2013 following the likes of Takaipa Takaipa (2011) and Musarove Bigman, Tavharisa (2010). During that time, the artiste had less competition which gave him an advantage.
The introduction of the likes of Tocky Vibes, Killer T, Seh Calaz, Souljah Love and Sniper have indeed given Winky D a good run for his money forcing him to ensure that he stays on top of his game.
But even though he had no current hit song, Winky D remained a favourite as his consistent well-choreographed act captured his followers nationwide.
Winky D fans, who now call themselves Gafas, believe their artiste is here to stay, especially considering that he is one of the few Zim dancehall artistes, if not the only one who uses a live band when performing.
