The outspoken Banda confirmed his mobile was inundated with calls from people asking about Winky D’s death.
“Yes, I have been receiving calls especially from relatives and fans inquiring about Winky’s death and I must say it is very disturbing that people would spread such rumours. He was never involved in an accident and he spent the whole of Friday in the studio,” he said blaming Winky’s rivals and enemies for spreading these rumours.
“Whoever started the rumour hates the lad. Winky has been on top of his game now and there are some people who hate him. That’s why they have started the rumours to distract his attention,” he said.
Winky D is not the first Zimbabwean musician to be reported dead. Others that included Leonard Zhakata, who eventually recorded the hit “Gomba Remarara,” taking a dig at people who wished him dead. The late Tongai Moyo and Andy Brown where rumoured to have died several times, before they actually met their death. Winky D is scheduled to perform at the Chibuku Road to Fame finals at Glamis Stadium this weekend alongside sungura king Alick Macheso and the energetic Tryson Chimbetu. This will be the first time that Winky D and Tryson perform at the event.
