EVERYTHING that he touches turns to gold or in Davon Chafa’s case, every team that he plays for wins the league title.
Winning the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is turning out into second nature for the man who last weekend bagged his sixth league title with FC Platinum.
“I have won many championship titles with different teams but this one (with FC Platinum) was so special because I scored the goal that guaranteed us the ultimate prize. I am grateful to the coaches for bringing me to Zvishavane to this great team when I left Zambia.
“I have been here for just six months but it feels like I have been part of the team and the community for years,” Chafa told B-Metro Sport.
When one door closes, another one opens.
And Chafa knows all about that.
Mid-year he was frustrated in Zambia while turning out for Buildcon FC and requested a transfer.
FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza in his football wisdom did not think twice about snapping the talented Chafa before other local contenders started dangling irresistible offers.
“I don’t regret leaving Buildcon, I grew as a person and a player during my time in Zambia. I’m now an FC Platinum player and that’s all that matters,” he said.
Chafa was part of the Dynamos team that won four consecutive league titles between 2011 and 2014 under Callisto Pasuwa.
In 2016 he helped Caps United win the local championship under the stewardship of Lloyd Chitembwe and two years later he is a champion again in Zvishavane.
FC Platinum are set to take part in the rescheduled Confederations of African Football (Caf) Champions League slated for early December and Chafa is looking to use his experience to help the ambitious outfit excel against the continent’s big boys.
